About Granby Hill:
Granby Hill, part of the Bristol in Brights series, depicts the tall and towering street in Hotwells, Bristol. What initially drew me to this road was its striking dimensions - the steep incline and the way the buildings seem to rise dramatically around it. I remember finding this street the day I decided to walk from Bedminster Road to the Clifton Suspension Bridge… It was quite the long walk!
The piece celebrates the architectural charm and unique character of Bristol’s streets, highlighting how even the everyday can feel grand and extraordinary when viewed through a fresh lens. This work invites the viewer to imagine climbing the hill, feeling its steepness, and taking in the surrounding vibrancy.

About Bristol in Brights:
When I moved to Bristol in 2020, it was hard to get a true sense of the city. Not only did I know very few people, but the streets were quiet due to the lockdown. To connect with my new surroundings, I took to the streets to explore and create my own narrative of the city. What I discovered left me in awe…
Despite the challenges of the time, I got a real sense of the vibrancy of the city! The colourful houses, the friendly people, the smell of yummy food, and the crazy steep hills - each aspect telling its own story.
I translated this vibrancy into a series of oil pastel drawings that capture not just the city’s unique architecture but also the energy and sense of belonging it radiates.
This series celebrates the joy of finding your own hidden gems, uncovering pretty streets, and embracing the unexpected beauty in your surroundings. Wherever you are, you never know what treasures you might find…
